O presente artigo objetivou avaliar as relações de trabalho dos catadores de materiais recicláveis, que atuam em uma das diversas associações existentes na cidade de Caruaru – PE. A coleta de recicláveis constitui para a maioria dos trabalhadores a única forma de garantir sua sobrevivência. Os catadores que segregam materiais recicláveis são expostos diariamente a condições precárias de trabalho que afetam com mais intensidade sua saúde aumentando a aparência de envelhecimento precoce, afetando seu bem-estar e o desenvolvimento social. Essa pesquisa investigou as relações e condições de trabalho que os catadores desempenham diariamente. Foram entrevistados 9 catadores que revelaram condições precárias de trabalho, vitimadas pela baixa satisfação pessoal, pelo pouco grau de instrução, que exercem na sociedade, sendo passiveis de exclusão social. \r\n \r\n Abstract\r\n With increasing population leading to a generation of solid waste, linked to excessive consumption, it was necessary to scavenging of some waste that can be recycled, so the collectors of education in society is of fundamental importance.
