COMPARISON OF THE ACTIVATION OF THE MAJOR PEBBAGE MUSCLE BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CONVERGENT CHALLENGE SUPINO EXERCISE

THE UNDERSTANDING OF BIOMECHANICAL, KINESIOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL FACTORS RELATED TO RESISTANCE TRAINING (TR) CAN SELECTIVIZE THE MUSCLE INVOLVED IN THE MOVEMENT OF A GIVEN EXERCISE. HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO SHOW THE DIFFERENCE IN THE MAGNITUDE OF THE FORCE BETWEEN THE GENDERS IN RESPONSE TO THE TR, BEING EXPOSED IN DIFFERENT STUDIES, THAT MEN PRESENT HIGHER VALUES ​​OF ABSOLUTE MUSCLE STRENGTH THAN WOMEN. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ELECTROMYOGRAPHY IN ANALYZING AN ACTIVE MUSCLE IN THE MOVEMENT, DETERMINES A RELIABLE BEHAVIOR IN RESPONSE TO THE STIMULUS OF THE RESISTED EXERCISES. BASED ON THIS PREMISE, WE ALLOW A FAITHFUL ANALYSIS OF A MUSCLE CONSIDERED AGONIST IN A MULTI-ARTICULAR EXERCISE (CONVERGENT SUPINE). THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PECTORALIS MAJOR MUSCLE IN BOTH SEXES DURING THE CONVERGENT BENCH PRESS EXERCISE. FOR THIS PURPOSE, 20 INDIVIDUALS (10 MEN AND 10 WOMEN) WERE TRAINED FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR WITHOUT ANY HISTORY OF INJURY, IN RELATION TO THE EVALUATED MUSCLES, BETWEEN 18 AND 30 YEARS OF AGE (MEAN AGE: 22.8 ± 2.25 YEARS). ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC DATA WERE COLLECTED WITH AN 8-CHANNEL EMG SYSTEM EMG SYSTEM ELECTROMYOGRAPH IN THE CLAVICULAR AND STERNOCOSTAL PORTIONS OF THE PECTORALIS MAJOR MUSCLE. THE PROTOCOL USED CONSISTED OF TRIPLICATE ACQUISITION IN MAXIMAL ISOMETRIC CONTRACTION AT THE END OF THE MOVEMENT OF COMPLETE ELBOW EXTENSION AND HORIZONTAL SHOULDER ADDUCTION IN THE SUPINE CONVERGENT APPARATUS (LIONFITNESS®). THE DATA WERE TABULATED AND ANALYZED BY THE STATISTICAL PROGRAM, SPSS 22.0, USING THE T TEST AS A WAY OF ANALYZING THE RESULTS. THE LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE WAS (P ≤0.05). THE RESULTS SHOWED A GREATER ACTIVATION IN THE TWO PARTS, CLAVICULAR (P = 0.01) STERNOCOSTAL (P = 0.02), IN THE WOMEN COMPARED WITH THE MEN, THUS SUGGESTING A GREATER RECRUITMENT OF MOTOR UNITS IN WOMEN, WHICH CAN BE JUSTIFIED BY THE LOWER FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH IN WOMEN. DESPITE THE RESULTS, WE SUGGEST NEW STUDIES WITH A LARGER N AND OTHER EVALUATION INSTRUMENTS THAT CAN PROVE THE RESULTS OF THE PRESENT STUDY.
