Our intention is to highlight the sense of loneliness and helplessness experienced by elderly character in relation to their families on the day of his birthday. As theoretical contribution we will be basing on the concepts of congruence and incongruence developed by Carl Rogers. The lack of authenticity in human relationships seems to be one of the serious problems experienced by contemporary society. In the specific case of old age, we realize that often the elderly are treated and cared surface and disrespectfully. The happy birthday tale, Clarice Lispector deals with a plot involving the suffering caused by the feeling of loneliness and lack of affection experienced by Dona Anita, aged 89, which includes a depressing way to his birthday party, more specifically, how their families behave towards her. The character realizes that the guests are not in your party to celebrate his life, but for a social obligation. Notes that the conversations and the affections of the children, are not authentic.
